Ship at Sea

Unarmed Services

GoAGT appreciates that not every vessel requires the level of support that our armed services provide, nor are they the preferred choice of every organisation.

Whether you are looking to boost the morale of your crews, provide them with training or provide additional surveillance during transit, GoAGT has partnered with the Merchant Maritime Warfare Centre (MMWC) to provide you with non-lethal solutions.

Recommended for:

  • Organisations that prefer unarmed protection over armed
  • Organisations wishing to empower their crews to deal with the threat of piracy
  • Organisations wishing to demonstrate organisational, insurance and legal compliance

Propeller Arresters

Designed and sold through our partner company, Merchant Maritime Warfare Centre (MMWC), this deceptively simple device is effective against attacks from one or more pirate skiffs and prevents them getting close enough to board your vessel.

Propeller Arresters™ are a non-lethal countermeasure easily deployed before entering a high-risk area and can be left unattended for entire transits.

This is a low-cost recommended solution for any fleet, and has the added advantage of being re-usable across many transits.

Ship Support Service

Our Ship Support Service is a dedicated support and advice service for vessels wishing to transit or anchor in high risk piracy areas.

Experienced maritime advisors will engage with your bridge team to ensure you and your vessel are as fully prepared as you can be.

Before transit we will provide you with the latest security intelligence, and a comprehensive Risk Assessment to highlight any vulnerability which can be remedied by many of our counter-measure recommendations.

Where possible, we will arrange for you to take part in one of the military convoys that operate in the IRTC.

Excerpts of the MMWC Handbook will be sent to you via email – including the invaluable Emergency Procedures and Responsibilities Checklist.

  • 24/7 advice to Masters/Management on security

  • Risk assessments
  • Military convoy opportunities
  • Latest intelligence

Unarmed Embarked Team

GoAGT will provide a minimum of two MMWC Surveillance & Training Officers (STOs) for the duration of your transit through the Gulf of Aden who will:

  • Implement and train the crew on effective counter-piracy measures and procedures for both the Master and crew
  • Display over the ships stern and quarters 3 high visibility MMWC banners – letting potential pirates know that the ship’s crew is trained
  • Liaise with the MMWC Operations Team in the UK to arrange military convoy inclusion where feasible as well as constant threat analysis and updates
  • Provide additional surveillance throughout the high-risk area so that early detection of a threat can be achieved
  • Communicate efficiently with the militaries in the event of a suspected attack

All our Officers are MMWC certified trainers and STCW-95 qualified with ex-military training and maritime experience and are therefore adept to deal with not only security threats but also the conditions at sea. They will be ideal mentors for your crew and will provide essential reassurance for both crew and shore-based management teams during high risk transits.
